Manchester City's hopes of completing a second successive treble were ended at the Etihad by Real Madrid, who kept their nerve to win a dramatic Champions League penalty shootout.

While Real Madrid can look forward to facing Bayern Munich for a place in the final, City have to recover quickly and focus on finishing the season with a double.

An FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea now looks trickier than it did a week or so ago, while Liverpool and Arsenal, who are both two points behind Pep Guardiola's side, remain in an exciting title race.

The best betting sites that had been tracking City's odds to win back-to-back trebles, are now offering odds for City to win a double.

It shows how high Guardiola's standards are at the Etihad that a Premier League and FA Cup double is seen as a disappointing season.

Motivating his players shouldn't be difficult in the closing stages of the season.

No team has ever won the Premier League in four consecutive seasons and an FA Cup win would see the club join Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham on eight wins.

City would be the first team since Arsenal in 2015 to win back-to-back FA Cups. Can City defend the two trophies they won last season? Let’s explore this in a little more detail.

Manchester City In Pole Position For League Title

City have to get over the disappointment of their Champions League exit quickly to ensure their season doesn't fizzle out without a trophy won.

Right now, the defending champions have a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, but that advantage could be wiped out by the time they play their next league game.

Rivals Liverpool and Arsenal both play twice before City travel to Brighton on Thursday, April 25, when the Cityzens could be third in the standings.

However, City's fate is in their own hands. Win their remaining six games, and they will become the first team to win four successive Premier League titles.

Four of their remaining games are away from home, but their away from is the second best in the league.

Football betting sites have City as the 2/5 favourites to become the first team to win four successive Premier League titles.

Arsenal are second favourites ahead of Liverpool who hope to make it a successful send off for Jurgen Klopp in his last season in charge.

With the top three sides separated by just two points heading into the final six games, it's still all to play for.

FA Cup Glory Is Still A Possibility

Manchester City are the FA Cup holders after beating Manchester United 2-1 in last season's final at Wembley, thanks to a double from Ilkay Gundogan.

After beating Newcastle 2-0, the semi-final draw wasn't kind to City and a showdown with Chelsea looms.

Chelsea's only defeat in their last 12 league and cup games, was their Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool in extra-time.

Cole Palmer has scored seven goals in his last three games and he will want to remind his former club of what they are missing after selling them to the Blues in the summer for £42.5m.

City are favourites on betting apps to not only beat Chelsea in the semi-finals (8/13), but also to win the FA Cup (4/6).

As City found out against Real Madrid, knockout competitions are difficult to predict, and the FA Cup is even more so than the Champions League given its single-leg format throughout.

Could City End The Season Empty Handed?

There is a possibility City finish the season without winning a trophy.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to win a trophy to help keep him in his job at Stamford Bridge.

So the Blues will be looking to end City's run in the FA Cup, while in the league, anything can happen in the closing weeks.

Freak results can happen in a title run-in, as Liverpool and Arsenal found out, losing at home to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa respectively.
