The range of sports and markets available at Borgata is plentiful. Some sports have more market depth than others; for example, soccer doesn’t offer any individual player prop markets, but basketball does.

The range of sports available from a smaller operator is impressive. Borgata includes niche sports like cricket, handball, and lacrosse. While I don’t think there’s much of a New Jersey handball fanbase, it’s nice to have the option to bet on it at Borgata.

Borgata offers boosts, including daily odds boosts and some parlay boosts. Other than that, there are hardly any ongoing sportsbook promotions for existing users, but it gets a big boost in my book for being eligible for MGM Rewards.

Since Borgata and BetMGM are owned by the same company, all the same payments are available to NJ bettors, which is a huge advantage at a local sportsbook.

Borgata Online does a great job of offering newer payment options like PayPal and Apple Pay, while still giving older sports bettors the option to see someone in person and hand them some money. Withdrawal options are not as plentiful as deposit options, but seeing some online withdrawal options listed means there’s a priority on getting players their money quickly—that’s a great sign!.

We did get a little bit frustrated with the Borgata customer service system at first. The help page forces you to go through a series of questions before the contact options appear. We know this system is used so that customers can find the answers they need without clogging up the phone lines or live chat. However, it does slow down the process. 

We'd like the power to find our own answers.

The Help & Customer Care icon in the main navigation takes you to a landing page with popular articles listed at the top, and a list of categories below to look for articles by topic. This interface is helpful, but having it be searchable would be better. 

The icon could also be made more prominent in navigation on mobile and desktop. If the icon were bolder, it would stand out better. 

In a saturated market like New Jersey, you need to do things to stand out, and Borgata needs to do some work on that. The existing reviews on the product are mostly negative and often point out that users do not enjoy their experience betting on Borgata. There is room for improvement here.

Because this sportsbook is only available in New Jersey, it perhaps doesn’t have the same pressure to make improvements in the way that sportsbooks available in multiple states do. 

The layout and site interface feel like a relic of past eras of online sportsbooks. The betting slip is responsive on the desktop version, which is frustrating. When the bet slip is triggered from the bottom menu, it eats up the entire screen, making it difficult to fill out your bet slip easily. 

The sports icons don’t do enough to differentiate the teams visually. The navigation between markets could be streamlined better as well. 

This is an area the operator could improve on.

The website froze up, and I had to keep refreshing while trying to evaluate Borgata, which wasn’t a great sign. 

The Borgata mobile app has above-average ratings in both app stores for its mobile product. Users cite the ease of navigation on the mobile app and the clean, simple layout that uses whitespace effectively to reduce information density. 

What’s nice about the mobile product is that it is a sportsbook-only app; users can focus on sports betting, and won’t be tempted by the lure of more variable casino games.

Borgata does an excellent job of promoting responsible gambling. With a prominent icon in the navigation that stands out visually against the site’s color scheme, the icon is clear and easy for users to see. 

The responsible gambling page gives users a distinct experience that makes it feel separate from the rest of the site. The microsite offers targeted resources for different responsible gambling scenarios and provides comprehensive resources to those who need more support.

It’s great to see that Borgata has invested in live betting, given the small footprint of this operator, and it’s nice that Borgata included live streaming. 

From a UX perspective, it would be nice if the button to get to all the wagers for a particular live event were more prominent. It’s a bit obscured in the navigation.

The readily available live betting menu and regular live streaming lineup really give New Jersey bettors a leg up. 

Borgata’s odds were among the least competitive in the industry based on my statistical analysis while reviewing the sportsbook.

Borgata Sportsbook is considered to have some of the least competitive odds for certain sports compared to the wider online sports betting market. This may not be a major concern for the operator, as they operate in a single state and don’t have to worry about being competitive across dozens of marketplaces. 

Regardless of their reach, the lack of competitive odds makes this a sportsbook to stay away from for certain markets.
