Oilers vs Panthers: The Panel's Picks & Best Bets For Stanley Cup Game 5

Our Oilers vs Panthers Game 5 Picks

The Stanley Cup heads to Florida on Tuesday night after Edmonton took Game 4 in Canada at the weekend.

Game 5 is back in the Sunshine State, where the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers face off one more time (8:00 pm, ABC, ESPN+).

Florida remain huge favorites with sports betting sites to win the series, but Edmonton placed some hope in the heads of bettors who fancy an Oilers’ comeback.

The Panthers are currently around -135 to win on Tuedsay and hoist the Stanley Cup while the Oilers can be backed at +115 to spoil the party.

Edmonton turned the tables on Florida in Game 4 on home ice, scoring eight goals and putting up the proverbial snowman. The Panthers were in the game at 2-1, but then the floodgates opened.

Even Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse got into the act with goals scored. It was that kind of night for Florida - anything that could go wrong did.

Florida now have a chance to clinch the Stanley Cup in front of their own fans, but can they overcome their worst playoff performance of the postseason on Tuesday night?

The Panel has checked out the stats, guides and key players ahead of Game 5 to provide their picks and predictions with NHL betting sites.

Florida To Make Good On Second Chance

Florida rued the two posts hit on their power play early in Game 4 that resulted in a shorthanded chance, which Mattias Janmark buried.

That goal changed the entire complexion on Saturday night. The Panthers had their share of chances, but Stuart Skinner and the Oilers' defense stood tall.

Edmonton are extremely unlikely to score eight goals again in any game this series. That is the good news.

As strange as both the NBA and NHL final series went 3-0, it was even more bemusing that the Game 4s were total blowouts.

Another bit of good news may be those Sergei Bobrovsky Conn Smythe shares. The still likely winner (was +450 on June 2) went to -500 over the weekend with DraftKings.

Now, he sits at -100 with along with Aleksander Barkov, so it may be a coin flip worth taking.

Evander Kane is still not expected to play in Game 5 due to a hip and lower body issue, just one of several players who are far from 100%.

Sportsbooks keep trying to back Edmonton a little. That +110 to +115 number on the moneyline is interesting and eerily similar to Games 1 and 2.

Edmonton will go home one way or another after Tuesday night. Either there will still be hockey played, or the Florida Panthers will have won the Stanley Cup.

The Panel believe that Game 5 will be much tighter heading into the third period with Matthew Tkachuk and Barkov helping the team to seal the deal.

Evan Rodrigues Has His Shot

It seems that Evan Rodrigues is shooting below his season average of 2.3 shots per game in the postseason.

However, in the last five games, that average has increased to 2.2 while Rodrigues also fired three shots on goal in Game 4.

On FanDuel, there is a slight difference between the alternate shot 2+ (-170) and the Over of 1.5 shots (-175). This is why shopping around is important, and that is one option to consider on Tuesday night.

Okay, how about a tiny wager on something more on the plus scale?

Considering that Rodrigues has had 3+ shots twice in his past five games, the Center’s confidence remains very high.

Expect Florida to come out firing from all angles on Tuesday night and Rodrigues to be a part of this shot party.

The 3+ shot prop stands at +175 on FanDuel and it may not last for long.

Our pick here is to see the shots find their target.

The Conn Smythe Coin Flip

Game 4 threw the sportsbooks into quite a spin as Sergei Bobrovsky had one bad game and his numbers took a calamitous fall.

Odds are ranging from -125 all the way down to -100. Yes, that is no misprint. Barkov and Bobrovsky are dead even with some bookmakers.

Would anyone have bet this after Game 3? No, of course not.

Does anyone take a second look now? Absolutely!

Florida obviously have to win on Tuesday night, but the 16th win means the Stanley Cup is not the only trophy up for grabs.

Futures like the Conn Smythe winner market are fluid as numbers change all the time and quite a few experts believe that one game does not make a Stanley Cup run.

Thinking small here allows us to take Bobrovsky to win the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe award.

He has been too good all postseason long, especially when the games have mattered most.
