Euro 2024 Predictions: The Panel's Best Bets For Wednesday's Group E Games

Wednesday’s Euro 2024 Group E Best Bets

Group E is on a knife edge heading into Wednesday’s final round of fixtures with all four teams locked together on three points and sensing a last-16 spot.

Romania are the surprise leaders thanks to their superior goal difference as they gear up to face Slovakia in Frankfurt.

Both sides enjoyed shock wins on matchday one before being brought back down to earth last time out, but remain very much in the hunt for a surprise knockout-stage berth.

Belgium and Ukraine were expected to fill the top two spots in Group E pre-tournament but one of them is now likely staring at an early exit ahead of their encounter in Stuttgart.

The Panel have studied the odds on football betting sites for both games and come up with a best bet for each of them, with the double paying 79/20 at bet365.

Slovakia Vs Romania Predictions

(5pm, BBC Two)

It’s rare to see the draw as the favourite in match markets on betting sites but the odds have tumbled on a stalemate between Romania and Slovakia since it became clear both sides may just need one point to progress.

A draw will likely secure Romania a top-two finish in the group while strengthening Slovakia's position as one of the best third-placed sides.

So, we can expect an extremely cagey game between two sides that probably didn’t expect to be in this position entering the Euros.

With the value in backing the draw gone and the usual betting staples of under 2.5 goals and both teams not to score too short, The Panel have plumped for under 1.5 goals at 29/20 with 10Bet.

We’ve already seen teams tighten up in these final group matches with some rearguard actions being fought, despite the need for a positive result.

And attacking isn’t the strength of either Romania or Slovakia, who rank 19th and 23rd for expected goals out of the 24 teams at Euro 2024.

They also rank in the bottom six for big chances created and touches in the opposition box.

It was Romania’s defensive nous that got them to the Euros and they look unlikely to shift too far away from a safety-first approach.

Slovakia have been a little better in front of goal, netting in nine of their last 10 games, and look the more likely to nab a goal, if one is to be scored.

However, The Panel wouldn’t be surprised to see both teams celebrating a goalless draw, which is worth consideration as a bet in its own right. BetMGM go 19/5 on a goalless draw.

Ukraine Vs Belgium Prediction

(5pm, BBC One)

If Slovakia vs Romania has the potential to be a snooze-fest, Ukraine’s clash with Belgium could be the polar opposite.

Ukraine sit bottom of Group E and a win is a must to guarantee a place in the last 16. Belgium can afford to draw, due to their superior goal difference, but are looking to build some confidence after an indifferent Euros so far.

The Red Devils looked much better in the win over Romania on matchday two and Romelu Lukaku’s luck in front of goal has to turn eventually after having three efforts ruled out in Germany.

Belgium are blessed with plenty of firepower and they’ve been creating chances consistently, registering a tournament-best average of seven shots on target per game.

That’s a worry for a Ukrainian side that looks vulnerable defensively, conceding four goals in two games.

A change in goal for the win over Slovakia, with Anatoliy Trubin replacing Andriy Lunin, helped to shore things up, but Ukraine still gave up 14 shots on goal.

Both sides rank in the top five for average possession at these Euros and Ukraine are at their best when they can get on the ball and get into a rhythm.

Ukraine’s previous opponents were happy to let them do that but Belgium won’t be so accommodating, and if they try to play the Belgians at their own game, Ukraine are likely to come up short.

Ukraine may contribute to what should be an open game, but Belgium are worthy favourites here and The Panel are happy to pair them up on betting apps with over 2.5 goals, which has paid out in both Ukraine’s previous games.
